EDWARD SAUNDERS

My teaching experience began at a Stagecoach Theatre School in Northampton as a dance coach in 2009.

For the past six years I have been teaching for Stagecoach Southgate, taking the weekly dance classes, running a dance troupe and choreographing musical productions of Matilda, Annie, Little Shop of Horrors, Joseph, Legally Blonde, School of Rock, Mary Poppins, Rent, Fame, Beauty and the Beast, Finding Neverland, Hairspray, Bugsy Malone, Alice in Wonderland, The Addams Family, Memphis and performances at Stagecoach at Her Majesty’s Theatre. I have found this enjoyable and rewarding seeing students grow into confident performers.

I am a freelance LAMDA teacher, preparing students for acting and speaking of verse and prose examinations, of which my student pass rate has been Merit and Distinction.

From 2014-2017 I was a freelance teacher at The Barbara Speake Stage School where I taught; GCSE Drama, GCSE Dance, GCSE Expressive Arts, Ballet, Tap, Modern, Contemporary and LAMDA tuition. I made a personal request to introduce LAMDA examinations to the curriculum and my introduction of Contemporary dance and choreography broke the mould and was a breath of fresh air to the school bringing a new dynamic to their dance training. I choreographed numbers for their annual productions and their contribution to the MoveIt Dance Championship in 2017. The drama and dance practical pieces created with students were modern adding new flavour and excitement, gaining their interest and enthusiasm to do well and be an achiever.

The school principal selected me to choreograph a piece inspired by her collection and love of dolls houses – featured on BBC’s Collectaholics.

I also choreographed a musical number featured in Sky Atlantics documentary about BAFTA winning film director Amma Asante, a former pupil at the Barbara Speake Stage School.

At present I teach UAL Level 3 Performing Arts and UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance at a Further Education College. I am currently studying the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education: Performing Arts at Rose Bruford.
