overview

In The Spotlight is a ballet film following the story of a young dancer who is frightened to take centre stage and step into her spotlight.

Gradually her confidence builds,  encouraged to keep going and persevere by a mysterious blue light that beckons her to perform; it is a metaphor for her inner voice, guiding her to express herself so she can achieve her dream. She takes the leading role in the ballet and shines like a star.

As choreographer I worked closely with the dancers; movement stemmed from dance/non dance images I had collected related to the story of the characters and themes the film explored. Questions I posed to the dancers related to their characters journey generated movement which I developed and pieced together to build routines.
