overview

A struggling teenager lives what seems to be an ordinary life, yet is desperately seeking acceptance for their journey as a transgender teen.

AVA is a realistic and touching tale of a coming out story based in the summer of 2014 in Braintree, Essex. Damian Thompson, a timid 17-year-old who is coming to terms with their desire to transition to a female; is having a hard time coming out as transgender to their loved ones.

Damian spends the days during the summer sketching and keeping to themselves despite having friends who encourage them to go out more. Damian’s previously close relationship with their brother Leo, becomes strained due to Leo moving out to accommodate for his new job.

When Leo returns home to visit Damian and their mother (Natalie) for a week, Leo attempts to reconnect with his younger sibling and as a result, unmasks a complicated secret which will alter their lives.
